My Dog Training Philosophy

Our training goal is to create a healthy mentality and relationship with humans. We develop calm, confident, and responsive dogs while maintaining the fun and increasing freedom.
We should aspire to have our dogs off-leash to explore and exercise as nature intended. To bring them into public spaces in a calm and controlled way. To share our homes without disruption or bad habits.
Impulse control and self-discipline are the hallmarks of a well-trained dog. This is higher education for your dog.
We achieve impressive results through forging a strong bond, trust, and respect. A proper relationship will have your dog looking to you for leadership and direction.

I use a balanced approach to training. We use treats to teach many new behaviors, then transition to using physical and verbal praise. Ultimately, it’s our positive relationship and clear communication that becomes the driver of good behavior.

One comprehensive system to bring your dog from new student to off-leash reliable graduate.

Perfect Puppy Program

Give your puppy all the advantages of early training. Your puppy’s developing mind is leaning how to behave in a human pack. Show them the right way from the start.
One of the biggest advantages to puppy training is that your dog will develop confidence and a deep connection with you. Most of the common problem behaviors will be avoided. Barking, jumping up, leash pulling, not coming when called, anxiety, and generally being stubborn/hard to control are all symptoms of a lack of puppy training. Creating the mindset and behaviors we want is always easier than going back and changing it later.

Basic Obedience Training

Foundations: Sit, Down, Stay, Come, and Heel
We’ll use Marker Training (aka clicker training) with food rewards to teach the commands of Sit, Down, Place, Come and Heel

We’ll use physical and verbal praise to teach Stay and Loose Leash Walking/Heel.

Next, we’ll solidify these basic commands by incorporating the three D’s: Distractions, Distance, and Duration.

Obedience Training will teach your dog all of these commands and you will understand how to correct mistakes in order to achieve complete reliability.

Boulder Voice & Sight Tag

In 2018 I was asked to develop and present an off-leash course for Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks as part of their Voice and Sight Tag Program.

Training dogs to be off-leash is my passion. I’ve been doing it since 1992 and I’m not sure anyone does it better.

Once you have a solid recall I’ll walk you through the process so you can both enjoy freedom in the great outdoors.
